Chasity Melvin began playing basketball at the age of 12 and from that moment on that’s all she has ever wanted to do. ‘Chas’ as she is called by her fans and followers is a true lover of all things basketball. She loves to play the game as well as talk and write about the game.
Chasity played four years at North Carolina State University where she was coached by the late Hall of Famer Kay Yow and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications in 1998.
Chasity led the 1998 Pack to their only NCAA Final Four appearance en route to Kodak All-American honors in 1998 and All-East Regional and Final Four honors her senior season. Melvin set an NCAA record for the most points in a national semifinal game with a career-high 37 against Louisiana Tech in her final collegiate game – a record that stood until 2010.
One of only seven NC State student-athletes to have her jersey retired, Chasity Melvin ended her Wolfpack career ranked in the top five in five career categories and continues to rank among the greatest players in school history.
Melvin is only the second player in NC State basketball history, male or female, to compile 2,000 career points and 1,000 rebounds.
After leading the team in eight statistical categories in 1997-98, she earned Most Valuable Player nods from her teammates as well as the NC State Alumni Athletic Trophy and the H.C. Kennett Award (as NC State’s best all-around student-athlete).
In 2011 Chasity was Named to ACC Tournament Legends Class. Melvin scored 2,042 points while at NC State.
She has played professionally in the ABL, WNBA and 12 years overseas in Israel, Spain, Italy, Poland, Korea, China, Russia, and Turkey. She now ranks 19th in WNBA history with 3,814 points, and 10th in rebounds with 1,228.
She was selected by the WNBA head coaches as reserves for the 2001 WNBA All-Star Game… Chasity did not participate in the game due to an eye injury.
She is currently playing professionally overseas while pursuing training and development for a career in broadcasting once she retires from professional basketball competition.
Her hopes and aspirations is to be able to transition into another career that keeps her near the game that she loves so passionately.
When Chas is not playing basketball, she loves to enjoy quality time her family and friends including the family and friends she has made throughout her basketball career.
Chasity Melvin has strong faith in God and holds a strong conviction that’s its only by the grace and mercy of the divine that she has been allowed to find and experience so much life from the game of basketball.
She loves reading, taking road trips, listening to music and laughing. She lives by the motto ‘Live Love Laugh.’
