I have a saying I love this Game I play this Game I talk this Game! The first time I picked up a basketball at age 11 I’ve loved this game. I’ve played the game 13 years overseas 11 years in the WNBA. I’ve talked the Game 0 years.
I’ve recorded my own personal interviews and worked with Mouth Piece Sports and you can easily see I had no experience with the Broadcasting Basics. Thanks to the NBPA and the WNBPA I was afforded an opportunity to take part in the SportsCaster U program at Syracuse Newhouse Broadcasting Facilities
During the program I experienced a radio and studio broadcast covering the NBA playoffs. This past week instead of watching NBA games for fun it became homework. I paid attention to the different styles broadcasters, analyst and side-line reporters used throughout the games. I never imagined how much fun homework could be.
In college I majored in Mass Communications and my goal was to be the next Robin Roberts. She was my idol off the basketball court as a kid. Robin made the job look easy but I learned last week a lot of hard work goes into making it look easy.
As I’m closing in on my last few years playing I’ve wondered if this broadcasting world could offer me the challenge and the competitiveness that I would sorely miss. During my class I was able to nail one of my segments on the 1st Take and the feeling I got was similar to that feeling of hitting a last sec shot. Right then and there I realized this is something I could do.
For those of you who follow me you know I Love This Game and with some more experience, more reps in the studio I think I maybe sooner or later I will be saying I Love To Talk This Game!
