Storm Lynx 2012 Playoff Preview

This preview is challenging because I haven’t seen the Storm play with a healthy team and even Coach Agler doesn’t know if  his team’s chemistry will pan out. Can the Storm manage to bring it all together and make a playoff run or will the inconsistency hurt them.

The Minnesota Lynx on the other hand have been just the opposite  injury free and team chemistry is solid. They finished the regular season 1st in the WNBA and have high hopes to repeat as WNBA champs.

The Lynx and the Storm are both loaded on paper and both teams have players that have won championship(s). The Lynx great chemistry starts with the 2x Peak Performer Award winner Lindsay Whalen. She orchestrates the offense and keeps the dynamic duo of Seimone Augustus and Maya Moore equally happy. Rebekkah Brunson is a beast on the boards and each year improves her offensive game. Last but not the least is Taj McWilliams Franklin who leads on and off the court. She is the smartest player on the court and finds a way to get crucial rebounds and defensive stops in the game.

Lynx X Factor

Monica Wright Monie Love and I have a lot of love for the instant offense. She is a big athletic, explosive guard and when she gets the minutes is a force to be reckoned with. Candace Wiggins will have to step up and knock down some shots in the back-court as well for Minnesota to advance to the next round.

In this series I expect Maya Moore to give us more of her electric play that we have seen since the Olympic Break.  She is playing with more confidence and is a triple threat on the court and rebounds well at the guard position.

I don’t see the Lynx losing at home but they will have to come with a lot of focus and energy as they will compete against a rested Storm team.

The Storm starting line-up if clicking on all cylinders will provide a lot of problems for the Lynx. One problem that they know they have to prepare for is Camille Little. There is nothing little about her play in the paint and she has been consistent all season long. With Lauren Jackson, Sue Bird, Tina Thompson and Ann Wauters at full strength they aren’t a true 4th seed.

X Factors for the Storm

Everybody healthy and the chemistry falling into place is the biggest X Factor for this team. Can they get it together after the seasons rocky storm. They say there’s always sunshine after the storm!

When you visit  the Storm’s website it has a photo of Lauren Jackson with all her acolades.  The bottom written in  fine print states I’m not finished yet.

The Lynx came back from there visit to the White House saying they aren’t finished yet either. We will see who backs it up tonight.

Lynx win at home.

The Wow Factor in the East Final Playoff Spot

The 2012 WNBA season has been one of the wildest in its 16 seasons giving fans and writers lots to talk about. From players being injured, to players not returning till after the Olympic break, from Angel MIA in Atlanta, to the owners firing the builder of the Dream Marynell Meadors, from Alana Beard not being a  Mystics Legend to reviving her career with the LA Sparks, from E Cambage coming back to not coming back to the Tulsa Shock, from Diana Taurasi not playing in Phoenix, to playing in the Olympics, back to not playing in Phoenix.

With that being said some things have stayed consistent. Minnesota is still stacked and still number 1.  A big plus for the L A Sparks and WNBA fans all over is Candace Parker has been healthy all season. Phoenix, Tulsa, and DC were losing games and except for Phoenix with all the injuries you would have to  question whether any of those losses had anything to do with one of the most highly anticipated draft classes in WNBA history . Tamika Catchings is still all over the floor defensively and offensively.

Last but surely not the least consistent in the league, is that of the one and only Taj McWilliams-Franklin at 41 she has consistently started in every game and is leading her young bucks again on another WNBA title run. She is also consistently making history as well, becoming the WNBA’s all-time leading offensive rebounder

The season is winding down and teams are leaving the craziness behind and getting serious about making their playoff runs. The playoffs consist of 8 teams and while seven of those teams have clinched their spots two teams are playing for that last and final spot in the east.
There isn’t anything wild about two teams fighting for that 4th playoff spot in the East because it always happens.

There just hasn’t  been as big of a Wow factor as it is this year.
Actually it has two intriguing Wow factors belonging to Rutgers finest Epiphanny Prince and Cappie Pondexter. Both players have similar styles they can drive, shoot, pass, get steals, even rebound the basketball but what you like most is how they score and how quickly they can score in bunches.

These two can simply take over a game in the 4th quarter as they can and have done this season. That’s why I’m tuning in tonight to see if the Stars can put a cap on Cappie or the Storm has an answer for the Sky’s Epiphanny.
Cappie has more help as her team is healthy while it’s still uncertain whether or not Fowles will play for the Sky tonight. Either way it doesn’t matter who is on the court with these two. They are scorers and they will need to score to push their teams to a playoff run.

Which player do you think will get their team in the playoffs? I would love to know your thoughts.

Stay tuned as I will be blogging about the 2012 WNBA Playoffs! Things are going to be very interesting.

USA Womens Basketball own the Game and the Gold!

USA Women’s Basketball have been on a mission since arriving in London for the 2012 Olympics.. While France fired  the first two points USA fired second and dominated with firepower only made in the US of A. France ran out of ammunition and USA’s mission  #OperationGold has been accomplished.

In my first blog I wrote that USA women would dominate in London,  like the nursery rhyme they would make the London Bridges come falling down. USA played ball when they stepped on the court the other teams just played. USA played to win the other teams played to see what might happen.  They showed the world how to play on both ends of the court. They were impressive on the defensive end as well as the offensive end because they play with the same passion and drive on each end of the court.

In any sport it’s hard to keep that competitive edge when your beating a team by 30 or 40 points in a game. USA’s focus throughout every game has been unreal. They don’t take a play off they but instead they try to dominate every play. They believe they are the best at the game and they know it is more than a game. Diana Taurasi said it best in this you tube video “WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THE WORLD KNOWS THE GAME OF BASKETBALL IS OURS..”

With a world record 5 straight Gold Medals not only is the game ours but so is Olympic Gold!
